Bob Laughlin, the 1998 Nobel Laureate in Physics, has just written
an article about the future of physics. Basically, he slams particle physics and its reductionist philosophy. He claims that string theorists and cosmologists are particularly arrogant to think they have the monopoly on the secrets of the universe. He further advocates that collective behavior, as studied by condensed matter physics, will be the next frontier.
